Greetings fellow macrotarians
Once again, my apologies for going awol. I got back from the festival and then I had no time before having to unexpectedly leave again. I got back on Sunday and since then I’ve been so snowed under with much macrobioticness that I’ve had no time to post. But alas, I’m back and pleased to be posting again.
I must share with you a beautiful translation by Herman Aihara of Lao Tsu’s philosophy of yin and yang:
‘The imperfect becomes perfect;
The crooked becomes straight.
The empty will be filled;
And old things renewed.
He who has little will gain;
He who has plenty loses.
The man of supreme wisdom
Clings to the Tao – the One
And is ever free.
But not clinging to his ego,
He clearly perceives.
Not stuck in opinion,
His understanding is clear.
Not proud of his deeds,
He is honoured.
Not haughty in success,
His fortune continues.
Not competing in the relative world –
Knowing it is quicksand – none can upset him.
Ahh!
You know thing that is so special about macrobiotics (ok, in truth I could list a million things but for now I’ll stick to this one!!), it is that you can take it as far as you want, and the further you go, the more simple, in many ways, it becomes. Then the more simple it becomes, the more profound it becomes.
What did you eat today?
I didn’t have breakfast today as I wasn’t hungry. Last night, my inner pig was let loose which involved lots of home made bread, tahini, jam and barley malt. Today I woke up with murderous thoughts of slaughtering my inner pig and chuckling to myself at the effect of too much bread on my liver. Can you imagine what could happen if I ate meat?!! he he he he!! (if you are new to macrobiotics you’ll probably think that statement is very weird but if you’re not a newbie then you’ll understand what I mean!!)
It’s so interesting the more you pay attention to how foods affect how you feel. It takes time, practice and effort to do this but once you start being able to distinguish between feeling yin or yang and what foods cause that then it becomes such a fun game if you like.
I have noticed that when I am feeling really good and well balanced that I have a tendency to then eat in a way that throws me off balance so that I then have to spend my time chasing that again. Ahh, macrobiotic malarkey is all fun and games!!
Lunch
For lunch I had aduki soup with celery, onions, kombu & parsley, brown rice with crushed sesame seeds, a vegetable stew made of squash, carrot & celeriac with a bit of tekka, cucumber & radish salad and sauerkraut
Dinner
Brown rice and millet with pumpkin seeds, red lentils and onions, boiled broccoli with ume su, lettuce salad, hiziki and parsnips and a little radish
Followed by some chamomile tea and home made bread with tahini
No sweets today. I’ve been eating sweets almost every day for as long as I can remember so it’s a kind of miracle that I didn’t have any today. I didn’t have any on Monday either, yay!!
OK, photo time, I’m going to post a couple from previous days too:
Loads of macro love
Sharlene
