Greetings fellow macrotarians :)

Once again, my apologies for going awol. I got back from the festival and then I had no time before having to unexpectedly leave again. I got back on Sunday and since then I’ve been so snowed under with much macrobioticness that I’ve had no time to post. But alas, I’m back and pleased to be posting again.

I must share with you a beautiful translation by Herman Aihara of Lao Tsu’s philosophy of yin and yang:

‘The imperfect becomes perfect;
The crooked becomes straight.
The empty will be filled;
And old things renewed.
He who has little will gain;
He who has plenty loses.
The man of supreme wisdom
Clings to the Tao – the One
And is ever free.
But not clinging to his ego,
He clearly perceives.
Not stuck in opinion,
His understanding is clear.
Not proud of his deeds,
He is honoured.
Not haughty in success,
His fortune continues.
Not competing in the relative world –
Knowing it is quicksand – none can upset him.

Ahh! :) :) :)

You know thing that is so special about macrobiotics (ok, in truth I could list a million things but for now I’ll stick to this one!!), it is that you can take it as far as you want, and the further you go, the more simple, in many ways, it becomes. Then the more simple it becomes, the more profound it becomes.

What did you eat today?

I didn’t have breakfast today as I wasn’t hungry. Last night, my inner pig was let loose which involved lots of home made bread, tahini, jam and barley malt. Today I woke up with murderous thoughts of slaughtering my inner pig and chuckling to myself at the effect of too much bread on my liver. Can you imagine what could happen if I ate meat?!! he he he he!! (if you are new to macrobiotics you’ll probably think that statement is very weird but if you’re not a newbie then you’ll understand what I mean!!)

It’s so interesting the more you pay attention to how foods affect how you feel. It takes time, practice and effort to do this but once you start being able to distinguish between feeling yin or yang and what foods cause that then it becomes such a fun game if you like.
I have noticed that when I am feeling really good and well balanced that I have a tendency to then eat in a way that throws me off balance so that I then have to spend my time chasing that again. Ahh, macrobiotic malarkey is all fun and games!!

Lunch
For lunch I had aduki soup with celery, onions, kombu & parsley, brown rice with crushed sesame seeds, a vegetable stew made of squash, carrot & celeriac with a bit of tekka, cucumber & radish salad and sauerkraut

Dinner
Brown rice and millet with pumpkin seeds, red lentils and onions, boiled broccoli with ume su, lettuce salad, hiziki and parsnips and a little radish

Followed by some chamomile tea and home made bread with tahini

No sweets today. I’ve been eating sweets almost every day for as long as I can remember so it’s a kind of miracle that I didn’t have any today. I didn’t have any on Monday either, yay!!

OK, photo time, I’m going to post a couple from previous days too:

Loads of macro love

Greetings dear ones :)

You know as my macro journey continues, I become more and more astounded when I realise just how many people do not know or understand how food is so massively powerful in shaping and determining our lives, health and happiness. If we all keep doing what we are doing, learning, experiencing, evolving and sharing with others we can change this…

I have to share something else with you…when I was in the hospital the other day, I saw a vending machine full of chocolate and crisps and I have to confess that something inside me wanted to rugby tackle the machine to the ground and destroy it!! Perhaps my liver was in a particularly bad state that day but ahhh, I mean isn’t it crazy that somewhere like a hospital, which should be health promoting, promotes things which do just the opposite? I won’t tell you what I thought about the coffee shop and cafe they had there!!! I am thinking perhaps we need a food superhero…how about macro man or super mac? ha ha. I haven’t been drinking, I promise!!

Oh yes, on that teetotal note, I haven’t had any alcohol to drink. I also don’t miss it or think about it. I’m still really happy with this decision and have to say it’s one of the best things I’ve decided :) I do feel as though my health has been a lot more balanced since then. There’s been less extreme yin and yanging – if you know what I mean ;) My extreme was having a bit of cocoa yesterday – woo!!

What did I eat yesterday…good question…hmmm….

Breakfast
Sweet rice & brown rice with a dollop of cherry spread

Lunch
Red lentil soup, brown rice with squash, broccoli, sauerkraut & a white bean hummus

Followed by a serious over indulgence of truffles which meant I wasn’t hungry at dinner and therefore didn’t have any dinner!

Today
Breakfast
Leftovers mixed together and made into a brown rice/lentil type soup.

Lunch
Pasta with a squash and tofu sauce, sunflower seeds & home made broccoli & pepper pickles
Coconut cookies

Dinner
Brown rice with a little leftover pasta sauce, aduki bean stew & lettuce salad

Roasted brown rice & green tea

Greetings to you lovely fellow macrotarians :)

How be thee and your macrobioticness?

I’ve had a really busy day today but before I go to bed, as usual, I try to consider what I might eat tomorrow and if there needs to be any preparations such as soaking or maybe cooking something. Dejan is cooking some sweet rice now for breakfast tomorrow (mmm!). He will wrap it up and let is stay warm so it continues to cook slowly overnight and tomorrow he’ll cook it some more so it will be beautifully sweet & creamy. I must soak some beans for tomorrow too.

Today’s food was:

Breakfast
Brown rice milk

Lunch
Brown rice noodles with a squash and tofu sauce with a little sauerkraut followed by a dessert of freshly made museli (we rolled the oats) with roasted seeds and raisins & some leftover water from the noodles

Dinner
Millet with roasted pumpkin & sunflower seeds, home made pickles & nishime style celeria, swede, carrot & onion

Ahh!

Love, light & macrobiotic magic to you

Sharlene

p.s. I did have some photos but I’ve just discovered that Dejan changed the settings on the camera and now they are too big to upload…grrr! I’ll see if I can post tomorrow. I must soak beans and then sleep!
